Timelines vary, but summer analyst recruiting at bulge brackets often begins the summer before your junior year (or even earlier). Boutiques and middle-market firms may recruit later. Start networking and preparing at least six months before applications open.

The typical pipeline is: online application, HireVue or first-round phone screen, superday (multiple back-to-back interviews), and offer. Some banks add a technical test or case study. Timelines between stages range from days to weeks.

A superday consists of three to five back-to-back interviews at the bank office, usually 30 minutes each. You will face a mix of technical, behavioral, and fit questions. Decisions are often made the same day or within 48 hours.

Target school students often have on-campus recruiting events and structured interview schedules. Non-target students typically need to network their way into the process earlier and may face additional screening rounds. Starting preparation earlier is essential.

Getting cut is normal and not a reflection of your long-term potential. Analyze what went wrong, refine your preparation, and apply to other banks. Many successful bankers were rejected from multiple firms before landing their offer.
